Heavy oil is by far the best place you can put on freshly colored solid ceramic wood flooring. Polyurethane finishes can be easier to apply and create a gloss almost immediately, but the dense tops of wood and not allow it to breathe. Because heavy oil penetrates the cellular level, it actually alters the composition of wood, providing a deep layer of waterproofing while providing an incomparable, hand rubbed glow.

Clean the entire room from the ceiling down. Use a vacuum with a brush and hose bracket to remove spider web and dust from the ceiling, corners, door and window frames and woodwork. Vacuum the entire floor. Add 2 cups of vinegar to a bucket of warm water. Wash the floor to remove residual dirt and dust. Allow the floor to dry for 24 hours, as water between the boards will take time to evaporate completely. Pour equal parts of pure wood oil and odorless lacquer into a plastic bowl and stir with a stirring pin. Start application in a corner, which works with the back towards an exit.

Quickly brush a generous coat of thinned wood flooring, which works with the wood’s grain. Allow it to penetrate for 40 minutes. The floor will fade and look dull within the first 20 minutes the oil sucks in. Repeat step 3 until the floor remains wet in appearance for 20 to 40 minutes. This may require up to seven layers, depending on the porosity of the wood. After the last coat, wipe off excess wood oil with soft, lint-free cloths, change cloths frequently. Allow the day’s work to dry for 12 hours.
